New from the October 9–16 newspapers

Mount Union history on West Shirley Street

Regina Reeder’s West Shirley Street mural brings together the Thousand Steps, East Broad Top Railroad, Trojan mascot, Harbison-Walker brickyard and Juniata River. Her husband Patrick helped research the landmarks. Planning began June 15, painting began July 1, and the newspaper reported the mural complete in October 2026.

Around 100 people helped with painting or donations. Named contributors include Susan Beaston, Brittany Bradshaw, Kari Roslund, Josh Williams and Vonnie Orlowski. Ace Fix-It Hardware supplied 10 gallons of primer. A protective clear coat provides UV and graffiti resistance.

DCNR assistance is planned; specific October activity dates were not announced.
